A LOCAL school is to hold a 'Who wants to be a Thousandaire?' night in aid of a classroom building programme.

On Friday, April 3, The Kilkenny School Project brings the hugely 'Thousandaire' to The Ormonde Hotel at the heart of Kilkenny City.

Contestants will be drawn from ticket sales and each contestant will play for €1,000. The show is fully computerised with 50/50, 'Ask the Audience' and a brilliant video linked 'Phone a Friend'. Tickets are €10.

This successful show is being by The Kilkenny School Project to assist in fundraising for a new school extension which consists of a multi purpose room, three resource rooms, a replacement staff room and storage areas.

Launch night for the show was in the school on Thursday and a big attendance included representatives from Bluett and O'Donoghue architects and Caulfield McCarthy Group Retail Ltd at SuperValu, Loughboy, main sponsors of the show. Also present were Councillor Andrew McGuinness and Minister for Trade & Commerce Mr John McGuinness.

"I encourage the people of Kilkenny to support this fundraising effort in terms of buying advertising or attending the show. Its important to raise the school profile in the local community," said Minister McGuinness.

The first ticket was bought by Jackie Tyrrell, James Stephens and Kilkenny hurler.

Mary Galway, chairwoman of the fundraising committee said: "We are all looking forward to a great night with a really professional and entertaining show. The event will start at 8pm and we would encourage people to come early."

"We would also like to say a particular word of thanks to our main sponsors and to all who have taken out advertising. We realise the difficulties some companies are facing at present and we'll endeavour to promote those who advertise with us at every opportunity," she added.

"We are delighted with the support we have received but we continue to seek more sponsorship and any businesses interested in supporting us can contact the school."

Tickets are available from the school (056-7751407) or at the door.
