A musical treat in Callan

A MUSICAL treat was enjoyed by many at a gala concert in the Church of the Assumption, Callan on Thursday. The event was held to raise funds for the ongoing restoration of the church and for the local branch of St Vincent de Paul.

Renovation work began on the church in 2002 with repairs to the fabric of the building and the releading of its 100 year old stained glass windows.

Since then the church has been completely rewired, the interior has been redecorated and a new bell tower, spire and cross have been erected.

It is hoped to re-roof the church in 2010 and later on to decorate the church exterior and resurface the yard.

Performers at the concert included the Callan Parish Choir, Michael Hayes, Noelle Morrissey, In Slide Out, Vanessa Sadlier, Caroline Sadlier, Brendan Hackett, Geraldine Bennett and the Unity Singers. The Master of Ceremonies was George Candler.
