A play for children
MIKE KENNY'S play for children 'Boy With a Suitcase' which is being presented by the Kilkenny-based professional theatre company Barnstorm opens a five day run at the Watergate Theatre on Tuesday, March 24.
The play tells the story of a 12 year old war refugee who undertakes a long journey to find asylum in another country with nothing but a suitcase containing a few belongings, and the many stories his family has told him throughout his childhood.
Naz, as he is known, likens himself to Sinbad the Sailor, a man who travels many voyages and has many adventures.
On his journey to his brother London, Naz meets Krysia, who helps him dodge soldiers and find safe passage over mountrains, across seas and through the mire of a city slum.
With the help of Krysia and his stories, Naz finds his way to London and his brother. But is it the heaven on earth that he expects will welcome him with open arms?
The play will be presented at 10am and 12 noon on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 3.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday. And it will be staged in the Civic Theatre, Tallagh, from Tuesday to Thursday, March 31 to April 2.
